Burlap to Cashmere picks up where they left off nearly 13 years ago with a self-titled sophomore album distinguished by its vigor, poetic insight and subtle spiritual leanings.  As before, singer/guitarist Steven Delopoulos and lead guitarist Johnny Philippidis offer a unique mix of American and European folk influences, drawing upon their shared Greek heritage for melodic and rhythmic ideas.  Under the guidance of producer Mitchell Froom (Suzanne Vega, Los Lobos, etc.), they craft a sound that combines Cat Stevens-like pop energy with the luminous vocal harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel.  Fiery acoustic guitar strums ripple through Don't Forget to Write and Build a Wall, while Tonight and Orchestrated Love Song achieve a more introspective mood.  The band's lyrics shift from brooding meditations on love (“Closer to the Edge) to yearning urban sketches (“Tonight) and vignettes from the road (“Live In a Van). Biblical references are interwoven into the songs with a nuanced touch, underscoring the compassionate tone of tracks like Love Reclaims the Atmosphere.  The Other Country closes the album on a transcendent gospel note. - iTunes
